Good Value for Seat Bag; Compact Jul 04, 2011
By khc Picked up this 18 Tools-In-One at my local military exchange (department store). It's a bit different from the picture, but the description is the same. Here is the tool breakdown: Allen Keys: 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm Box Wrenches: 9mm, 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 15mm Phillips & Flathead (common) screwdrivers Spoke Wrenches: 12G, 13G, 14G [these are "notched" into the box wrenches] 8mm socket wrench Tire lever on body [the black plastic tool "bodies" have been modified to terminate in a thin, slightly pointed & rounded-over shape; in a pinch, they could be tire levers]
Unmated, the tool kit can be stored in a space 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 3 1/4 inches; it weighs 8 oz without the pouch [which is nylon]. Mated together, the basic tool kit is 3 3/4 x 1 3/4 x 1 1/2 inches [all tools folded in]. The pouch can accommodate the tool kit mated together or otherwise.
The quality of the Allen keys is about average; they are comfortable enough to be used for routine maintenance, but it would be difficult to exert a lot of torque. The screwdrivers are below average in quality & finish; but okay for in-the-field adjustments. The box wrenches & spoke wrench cutouts are thin, with stamped-out working ends [not machined]...it appears that some reviewers used them for routine maintenance, but most of us would find them just barely suitable for emergency repairs [the box wrenches do "lock" into place, but the locking mechanism is very lightweight and flimsy]. Finally, as for using the tool bodies as tire levers...they really are ill-suited for this, so [again] emergency use only.
All in all, a good value at the Amazon price, and certainly okay--very compact--for the seat bag, but NOT for the workshop [or routine maintenance in general]. Even in an emergency, I'd use care with the box/spoke wrenches.

Handy bike tool Feb 22, 2011

We are a family of six that love to ride bikes, so it seems like my weekends are spent working on a least a couple of those bikes. I wanted a tool that would keep most of what I use in one place and this was the closest I could find. I really like that it has the 15mm wrench to use on the lugs, but I do wish it also had a 14mm as well. I have already had to use it a couple of times and I am very pleased with the simplicity and ease of use. It works perfectly for little fix-it projects on bikes.

I read some reviews about this product before buying it and I read the good, bad and the ugly and decided to buy it anyway. I like it and will give it 5 stars. Could they be more sturdy? I'm not sure if they could be in such a compact case, but we're talking about a bicycle here, not a motorcycle! There might be times when you will need more sturdy tools when working on your bike, but it worked really well for me when I was tightening the handle bars and the reflector and taking off the rack behind the seat to put on a baby seat. I think it's very handy indeed.
Incorrectly Assembled Apr 30, 2012
By bobv This is a good tool but the one I received had two exactly the same flat blade screw drivers and no phillips blade screw driver. It was assembled incorrectly. Too much trouble to return since the tool is not in stock (1-4 months).

I've had this for about a decade (mine is Bell branded). Never considered it special, but I use it more than anything else. Its not a tool I go looking for: it just tends to be closest to the bike stand.
Positives: Two halves nestle together magnetically, making it fast and easy to open and use. Box wrenches (some slop, be careful). Lots of tools. No chain breaker (multitool chainbreakers are a great way to ruin a chain).
Negatives: detachable tire levers on the side are tough, but small and poorly shaped for the job. Its easy to accidentally knock them off when using other tools: amazingly, neither ever stayed lost. Only a crazy person would use the spoke adjusters, they'd mangle spoke nipples. It lacks the large hex wrench needed for tightening cotterless cranks (not an issue with pinch bolt cranks).
Conclusion: Pretty slick. Someone hinted he wanted it, I told him WalMart had them cheap. Haven't seen these at WalMart for a long time, glad its still possible to get one.
